law enforcement opportunities (LEO)

What we do

LEO is committed to enhancing cultural diversity in law enforcement, criminal justice, and corrections. This includes organizing a career fair for law enforcement to educate communities of color and women about the various career opportunities within these fields. Additionally, LEO provides scholarship opportunities to support the recruitment of these populations in law enforcement, criminal justice, educational organizations, and corrections agencies.

the history of leo

In May 1991, professionals from law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, higher education, and community organizations came together to identify and address the low applications from women and people of color into law enforcement, criminal justice, and correction careers. This collaboration led to the establishment of the non-profit organization Law Enforcement Opportunities, or LEO.

As a dedicated non-profit organization, LEO continues to promote cultural diversity in law enforcement, criminal justice, and correction careers, as well as within educational institutions. Each year, LEO sponsors its annual career fair for law enforcement to assist organizations in informing women and persons of color about the career and educational opportunities necessary to pursue a career as a police officer, correctional officer, or in other criminal justice careers. The annual career fair is FREE and open to the general public. Your involvement and contributions are significant to the success of Law Enforcement Opportunities. By participating as a volunteer, registering as a vendor in our Annual Law Enforcement Opportunities Career Fair, and making charitable donations, you help support our LEO scholarship opportunities and assist our efforts to help others reach their dreams.

The Steve Cannon Memorial Scholarship is an additional monetary amount awarded to a deserving recipient, selected by the judges during the interview process. The awardee chosen for this special honor will be based on a variety of factors including academic excellence, need, and special situation.
