Hennepin Tech's Peace Officer Training program, certified by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST board), provides both the academic and skills training needed for law enforcement. Our Peace Officer courses emphasize equity, evidence-based practices, and data-informed approaches. We train culturally competent peace officers who are ready to serve all people and communities with dignity and respect.
Students learn Minnesota statutes, the U.S. Constitution, criminal and traffic law, and develop skills needed for daily law enforcement. Our experienced faculty bring a wide range of law enforcement backgrounds to the classroom, preparing students to deliver justice effectively.

This program is for those looking to learn the knowledge necessary to effectively function as a peace officer and citizen while developing skills and characteristics to successfully pass the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board examination and gain employment. Academic instruction is combined with a high degree of hands-on training essential to develop appropriate skills. Students then apply classroom theory to hands-on settings utilizing actors, patrol vehicles, on-board computers, and radio. The equipment used is the same commonly used by the law enforcement profession.

The Peace Officer A.A.S. degree program prepares students for careers with city, state, federal, private, and other criminal justice agencies. While the program is designed primarily for peace officer careers, many students choose courses that lead to careers in other areas of the Criminal Justice system, such as public safety communications, corrections, and probation work. The program provides pre-employment education for students who want to enter the field of criminal justice at the end of two years with an Associate in Applied Science degree. The Peace Officer program is certified by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). After completing the skills training (also offered on the Northland campus) and completing a degree, students are eligible to take the state POST exam.

The Peace Officer program is designed to satisfy all pre-license requirements of the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Graduates are prepared for careers as police officers, deputy sheriffs, corrections officers, security officers, and other law enforcement positions. An additional career path includes training toward a conservation officer, which would include a two-year program such as Environmental Science at RCTC. The Associate of Science Peace Officer Transfer Pathway degree, Associate of Applied Science degree, and Certificate program satisfy the requirements to become MN POST Board Exam eligible. Graduates seeking employment as Police Officers will be required to pass the POST exam.
